About Fat Dissolving Injection

Fat dissolving injection is a method of fat reduction treatment. It is non-invasive and the downtime is minimal. There are a few fat dissolving injection products on the market. At Yuchi Medical, we use Aqualyx. Aqualyx is a solution of deoxycholic acid. It was developed by Professor Pasquale Motolese, president of the Italian Society of Aesthetics and Medicine, and has been in use since 2009. Aqualyx is licensed for use in the UK. Frequent Questions

Aqualyx is a solution that is injected into the face and body to liquefied fat cells. Aqualyx contains a product called deoxycholic acid which is found naturally in the body. Deoxycholic acid breaks down fat, the lipids are then released and eliminated naturally by the lymphatic system. This is a highly effective and non-invasive fat reduction treatment. Some of the areas that can be treated with fat dissolving injection are:

  • Face
  • Neck: Double chin, jowls, submental fat and aging neck
  • Body: Localised fat in the abdomen, thighs, arms, and buttocks

Yes. Aqualyx is a safe, effective and non-invasive fat dissolving treatment. The downtime is short as compared to invasive fat reduction treatment such as liposuction.

Aqualyx works by causing an inflammatory reaction in the fat cells which can result in redness, bruising and swelling that could last up to 48-72 hours. Patients may take painkillers but avoid taking anti-inflammatory painkillers such as ibuprofen as they will work against the treatment.

The result of fat-dissolving injection can usually be seen after just one treatment. The number of Aqualyx treatments required varies depending on treated areas and the fatty deposit. Some patients may need more than one treatment to achieve the desired results.

In order to achieve the best results, prior to the treatment, our practitioner will have a comprehensive consultation with patients to tailor a bespoke treatment plan. This involves discussion of treatment goals and signing of patient consent form.

After the consultation, the targeted area for injections will be cleaned and Aqualyx solution will be injected into the area. A local anaesthetic will be mixed with the solution to reduce the discomfort of treatment. The process usually takes anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour.

Most patients will see their full results in 8-9 weeks.

Usually, once fat cells are eliminated from a localised area, the results are as good as permanent. However, patients are advised to maintain a healthy lifestyle and balanced diet to maintain the results.

Aqualyx is very safe if administered by a highly trained practitioner. Common side effects can be bruising and swelling but these will subside over time.
